PIA flight from Kabul with 390 passengers arrives in Islamabad

Two other Pakistan International Airlines flights carrying 390 passengers have arrived in Islamabad from Kabul as part of Pakistan’s efforts to evacuate people who wish to leave Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.

A PIA spokesperson said that in addition to citizens from Pakistan and Afghanistan, the passengers also came from 10 different countries, including diplomats from Germany and the Philippines.

The first returning flight was an Airbus jet, while the second was a Boeing 777.

PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik personally accompanied the first flight to Kabul today to boost staff morale.

A PIA spokesperson said that when the PIA flight entered the airspace of Afghanistan, it was warmly welcomed by the director of the country’s aviation administration.

The Director of the Pakistan Intelligence Agency held a meeting with staff from the Afghan civil aviation authority and NATO forces.

He also accompanied Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Afghanistan, to review the management and operation of PIA at the airport.

Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar is expected to allow more flights to Kabul. At the same time, the issue of extending flight operations to other cities is under consideration.

According to a Pakistan International Airlines spokesperson, so far, in five such special flights, about 1,000 passengers have been evacuated from Kabul and taken to Islamabad.

350 passengers arrived

With the support of the Pakistani Embassy and local authorities, the flag carrier brought another 350 passengers from Kabul back to Islamabad earlier on Friday.

According to official media Application, About 350 passengers, including about 250 World Bank staff, were taken back to Islamabad on two Boeing 777 flights.

Other passengers include foreigners and local Afghans working with several international organizations, Afghan Wireless Communications Company, Vimco Imtiaz Construction Company, Sky Air Logistics Company, and the Philippine Embassy.

Mansour Ahmed Khan said that the embassy has made special arrangements for the safe passage of the Afghan people. He said that PIA carried some passengers on Thursday and will operate two flights on Friday and more flights in the next few days.

He added that transportation arrangements have been made to safely transport passengers from the embassy compound to the airport by bus, and the embassy will also assist them in boarding.

The ambassador stated that the Pakistani Embassy will “continue to provide convenience to all those who wish to travel to Pakistan or use the route to transit”, adding that the embassy staff is working around the clock to facilitate people and will provide all assistance, especially for work.
