Rawalpindi: The awareness seminar of the Committee of Women Engineers of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) was held at FJWU on Friday. The guests of the seminar were Engineer Javed Salim Qureshi, PEC Chairman, Engineer Suhail Aftab Qureshi and FJWU Vice President Dr. Saima Hamid.

The basic purpose of the seminar is to raise the awareness of female engineers. The Pakistan Engineering Council established the first committee under its Punjab branch to speed up the regulatory process in this area. The committee’s message is “Let’s do it together”.

Dr. Maryam Jalal, who is in charge of the Department of Electronic Engineering at FJWU, welcomed the distinguished guests and said that PEC has established the Women’s Engineering Committee (Punjab) to encourage women’s engineering interests in various fields and the professional challenges they face to improve their efficiency.

Engineer Javed Salim Qureshi talked about the reforms and initiatives that PEC has taken to improve the engineering community. He said that a female engineer incubation center and a female engineer club will be set up in the PEC building to provide young engineers with opportunities to exchange/show ideas and start-up companies. The center will also provide a platform for female engineers to hold meetings with potential investors on innovative engineering solutions.

The main responsibilities of PEC include provision of facilities for female engineers in the workplace/educational institution as its main agenda. It was also announced during the meeting that PEC will not provide certification to any new engineering universities until they provide female engineers with all the basic necessary facilities.

The Vice President Dr. Sema Hamid congratulated the Committee of Women Engineers for hosting the first “Engineers Conference” at the first landmark women’s university. She said that although women become better workers because of their multitasking capabilities, it is necessary to provide them with better infrastructure to increase their productivity. She urged the use of such platforms to improve the field. She also emphasized the importance of industry academic connections for capacity building.

Dr. Saima, as always, fully supports female engineers and congratulates PEC executives on the successful first meeting of FJWU. At the closing ceremony, Ambreen Zaman shared her success story and provided a guide for the committee to move forward.
