Pakistan will export mobile phones in 2022: Razak Dawood

• Dawood said that foreign companies want Pakistan to make their mobile phones.
• Pakistan’s export value in July was 2.3 billion U.S. dollars, which was the highest export value of the month.

Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Business and Investment Adviser Abdul Razak Dawood predicts that by 2022, Pakistan will export mobile phones.

Dawood said at a press conference in Islamabad on Monday with Shahbaz Gill, the prime minister’s political communications assistant, that Pakistan has already begun manufacturing mobile phones and some foreign companies have also applied to make their mobile phones in Pakistan.

“I hope to bring export culture to this country,” Dawood said.

He emphasized that Pakistan should focus on other industries in the next five years, instead of relying solely on textile exports.

The Prime Minister’s assistant told reporters that the Pakistani government has formulated a strategy to increase exports.

When introducing export statistics to the media, he said that Pakistan’s exports in July were 2.3 billion U.S. dollars, which was the highest export value ever recorded in July.

According to Dawood, Pakistan’s exports are growing fastest in the information technology sector, with IT exports exceeding $2b each year, accounting for 47% of the growth rate.

He claimed that exports will expand to 38% from the current 31.2%.

“We look forward to increasing the value of merchandise exports to US$3.02 billion and the value of service exports to US$750 million in this fiscal year,” he added.

On this occasion, Shahbaz Gill stated that the federal government follows the “Made in Pakistan” policy.

“The government has been committed to promoting exports because Pakistan’s future depends on it,” Gill said.

He said that during a recent meeting with exporters, Prime Minister Khan was informed of the problems faced by the export department.

“Prime Minister Khan will meet with exporters every month,” he added.
