Pakistan, South Africa vow to build deeper relationships

• General Maphwanya, commander-in-chief of the South African Defence Force, met with COAS General Bajwa and CJCSC General Nadeem Raza.
• During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of common concern between the two countries.
• The visiting dignitaries also appreciated Pakistan’s role in regional peace and stability.

The commander-in-chief of the South African Defence Forces, General Ruzani Mapwanya, visited the Chief of Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa (Qamar Javed Bajwa) at the Rawalpindi Headquarters (GHQ) today.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Service Public Relations Department (ISPR), during the meeting, the two parties discussed common interests, regional security situation, and national defense, training, and security cooperation.

COAS stated that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relationship with South Africa and regards it as an important country on the African continent.

According to the statement, COAS said: “We appreciate South Africa’s role in regional peace, security and development in Africa.”

The visiting dignitaries also appreciated Pakistan’s role in regional peace and stability, especially the peace process in Afghanistan. Political leaders of the two countries have pledged to play a role in further improving bilateral cooperation at all levels.

Meeting with CJCSC General Nadeem Raza

General Rudzani Maphwanya also visited General Nadeem Raza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues such as bilateral cooperation, security and the current regional environment.

The dignitaries discussed measures to improve the level and scope of military exchanges between the two countries and reiterated that they will continue to build deeper relations. The visiting dignitaries praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.

Earlier, after arriving at the headquarters of the Joint Staff Headquarters, an ingenious tri-service contingent presented a “guard of honor” to visiting dignitaries.
