Pakistan should be seen as a facilitator rather than a guarantor of the Afghan peace process: DG ISPR

Major General Babar Iftihar, Director General of International Services Public Relations, said on Saturday that Pakistan should only be seen as a facilitator of the Afghanistan peace process, not a guarantor.

DG ISPR talked about Afghanistan and its future in a conversation with a private TV channel.

Major General Iftihar stated that Indian investment in Afghanistan “seems to be sinking.”

“If India is investing in Afghanistan sincerely, then it will not be disappointed today,” DG ISPR said.

The head of the military’s media department stated that India’s goal is to harm Pakistan by entering Afghanistan.

He added that New Delhi is trying to tell the world that Pakistan is “the root cause of the Afghan problem.”

Major General Iftihar stated that India’s statement is not true, adding that “the world knows that Pakistan has done its best to solve the Afghan issue in the best possible way”.

“U.S. forces withdrew early”

DG PISPR spoke in detail about the reactions of Afghanistan and Pakistan to the situation there, as well as the role played by the United States.

“The only expectation of the United States is to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan responsibly,” DG ISPR said. He explained that responsible withdrawal means proper transfer of power, and lamented that the withdrawal of US troops was “a bit early.”

DG ISPR also responded to rumors circulating in the media about the US base in Pakistan. DG ISPR stated that the Pakistani government has made it clear that there is no problem in providing bases to the United States because it is not necessary.

“Afghanistan should also carry out border management”

The head of the military media department regretted the lack of work by the Afghan government in border management with Pakistan.

“Border management should also be done on the other side, but unfortunately, this has not been done yet,” DG ISPR said. However, he assured the country that Pakistan is determined not to allow anyone to use its territory against another country.

“We will not allow anyone who is not welcome to enter the country,” he said.

Major General Iftihar stated that border management is necessary because everyone knows that Islamic State and TTP are in Afghanistan and occasionally try to harm their interests.

He assured everyone that the security situation on the country’s border with Afghanistan today is much better. He added that additional border guards have been established to further strengthen border security.

DG ISPR stated that 90% of the fence on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has been completed.

He also said that the Ministry of the Interior has formulated plans to deal with the influx of refugees in order to prevent the escalation of violence in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan sincerely talks about advancing the peace process in Afghanistan”

Major General Iftihar said that as the then U.S. President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of troops, Pakistan sincerely talked about advancing the peace process in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan has no favorite in Afghanistan.

“What kind of government they seek and how they want to move Afghanistan forward depends on the Afghans,” DG ISPR said.

He also assured everyone that if the Afghans reach that position, Pakistan will work hard to resolve the deadlock.

“If the Afghans are in a deadlock, then we are also working to resolve it. But even if we have our limitations, we can only advance things to a certain extent,” DG IPSR said.

He added that international stakeholders know that Pakistan has made sincere efforts to resolve the conflict in Afghanistan.

The major general said that Afghans have the ability to sit down and decide the future they hope to create for the country.

“The direction of things will be determined by the internal situation in Afghanistan.

“A gun cannot be used to force such a decision. If this is the case, then this will happen in the past 20 years,” Major General Iftihar said.

DG ISPR warned that a decision must be made through negotiation, otherwise the situation may lead to civil war. He added that no one would benefit from the civil war, it would only harm the entire region.

“All factions in Afghanistan are tired of 40 years of violence,” he said.
