Pakistan pays close attention to the situation in Afghanistan: Moeed Yusuf

Islamabad: Pakistan is closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan. National Security Adviser Moyd Youssef said on Monday that after the Taliban had consolidated control of the country two decades later.

A day ago, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country and admitted that the insurgents had won a 20-year war.

The Afghan Taliban took over the presidential palace in Kabul on Sunday night, and the government collapsed at an alarming rate, triggering fear and panic in the capital.

Thousands of people tried to flee Kabul on Monday. The scene was chaotic and crowds gathered at the airport.

The US National Security Agency stated that the situation in Afghanistan is now improving, adding that Pakistan is working to evacuate people from Kabul.

To this end, the Ministry of the Interior has set up a special team that operates 24 hours a day.

He called on the embassies of other countries in Pakistan to get in touch with the team.

The US National Security Agency said that so far, no country has issued any statement on Pakistan. “This is our success,” he said, adding that rumors should not be relied on.

Yusuf said that even India remained silent and no one talked about Pakistan, adding that the search for scapegoats was still going on, he said.

Yusuf said that Kabul was occupied by the Taliban much earlier than expected.

The national security adviser stated that Pakistan will provide visa facilities to citizens of all countries trapped in Kabul, and emphasized that Pakistan hopes to enforce the law and implement human rights.

“If someone wants to go out, we will help,” Yusuf said.

He also stated that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund hope to monitor Afghanistan from Pakistan.

Qureshi held talks with Afghan leaders

Earlier today, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi hosted an Afghan delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that during the call, the Foreign Minister shared Pakistan’s views on the latest situation in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan believes that all areas of Afghanistan are important for shaping the ultimate destiny of their country,” he said.

He expressed the hope that Afghan leaders will use the international community’s support for peace and reconciliation, in line with the country’s supreme national interests and the wishes of the people, to jointly respond to the ever-changing situation in Afghanistan.

Qureshi emphasized that the region cannot withstand the continued instability in Afghanistan because it will have a negative impact on the goal of peace and connectivity.

He added that it is very important for the international community to continue to participate in Afghanistan’s enduring peace and stability efforts because it is a shared responsibility.

Foreign Minister Qureshi emphasized that Afghanistan’s lasting peace and stability are in Pakistan’s interests and reiterated that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in supporting a peaceful, united and prosperous Afghanistan.
