Pakistan on Friday called on relevant UN agencies to thoroughly investigate India’s use of Israeli spyware, Pegasus, against Israeli Prime Minister Imran Khan and others.

Zahid Hafeez, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement: “We have noted with great concern that recent international media reports have exposed the use of spyware originating from Israel by the Indian government against its citizens and foreign countries. People and Prime Minister Imran Khan conducted organized espionage activities.”

The spokesperson condemned the continuous and extensive surveillance and espionage activities supported by the Indian government. “Secretly surveillance of opposition voices is the long-term textbook strategy of the RSS-BJP regime to commit human rights atrocities in Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by India. It also peddles falsehoods against Pakistan information.”

The spokesperson further stated that when the EU Disinfo Lab India Chronicle’s report surfaced earlier last year, the world had already seen the true face of the so-called “democracy” in India.

“We are paying close attention to these revelations and will let appropriate global platforms pay attention to the infringements in India,” the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads.

“In view of the seriousness of these reports, we call on the relevant UN agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter, expose the facts, and hold the Indian perpetrators accountable,” it added.

It is worth mentioning here that at least two dozen mobile phones of senior Pakistani defense and intelligence officials were allegedly targeted by technology owned by the Israeli spyware company NSO Group.

The report quoted an unnamed person familiar with the matter as saying that an analysis of 1,400 people whose mobile phones were the focus of hacker attacks earlier this year revealed suspected privacy violations.

According to an investigation by 17 media organizations released on July 18, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were selected by customers of the NSO group cyber espionage company as potential targets for the Israeli-made Pegasus spyware program.
