Pak Navy, PMSA rescued crew from a stranded merchant ship

The Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) rescued 15 of the 18 stranded crew members on a merchant ship on Thursday, Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. The operation took place south of Karachi.

According to the statement, Merchant Marine (MV) SUVARI H set sail from Candela, India to Bossano, Somalia. The ship ran aground about 180 nautical miles south of Karachi, with 18 crew members on board.

The Pakistan Navy and PMSA sent ships and aircraft to assist the stranded merchant ships.

According to the statement, the Pakistan Navy and PMSA lowered their life rafts to assist the stranded crew and coordinated their recovery to the nearby merchant ship MT ELAN VITAL.

A total of 15 crew members have been found, but 3 crew members are still missing. The statement added that the Pakistan Navy and PMSA are continuing their efforts to search and rescue the remaining crew.

According to ISPR reports, the Pakistan Navy is the coordinator of NAVAREA IX (Navigation Warning Service) and always promptly provides assistance and support to the shipping industry and ships in distress at sea.
