Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab (Murtaza Wahab) warned on Monday that if citizens do not comply with the Coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), the province will be forced to implement stricter restrictions.

The spokesperson said at a press conference in Karachi that if people want the government not to implement severe COVID-19 restrictions, then they must comply with the government’s SOP.

“If the hospital’s space is filled, the situation will worsen,” he said, adding that PTI and MQM-P will blame the Sindh provincial government for the increase in cases.

The spokesperson said that the government does not want to impose restrictions, but if people do not follow standard operating procedures, they have no choice.

He revealed the shocking COVID-19 situation. He said that in the past 24 hours, the infection rate in Karachi had reached 23%, compared with 8% 10 days ago.

Wahab added: “There are enough coronavirus vaccines; citizens should vaccinate themselves.”

Before Wahab issued the warning, doctors and health experts urged the government to implement a health emergency in Karachi, because hospitals no longer have beds to accommodate coronavirus patients.

On the other hand, government officials stated that the number of sick children in Karachi government hospitals has increased.

Professor Anjum Rehman of Lyari General Hospital said that children diagnosed with Delta mutation are being treated in the facility. She added that the hospital is also increasing the bed capacity of its coronavirus ward.

Officials also said that coronavirus infections among doctors and medical staff are also increasing.

Delta variants spread like “wildfire” in Karachi

The provincial government may take drastic measures in metropolises to curb the rapid spread of the delta variant, which currently accounts for 92% of infected cases and the positive rate exceeds 23%.
