Mohsin Naqvi emerges as strong contender for PCB chairman role

Sources privy to the development said he is likely to be nominated for the coveted position of Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The news comes on the heels of the resignation of Zaka Ashraf, who held the position of Chairman of the PCB Management Committee. The announcement of Ashraf’s resignation was made during a committee meeting on January 19, 2024.
The 72-year-old, who took charge on July 6, was vocal about his efforts for the betterment of cricket but cited challenges that made it untenable for him to continue in the role.
As the spotlight shifts to Mohsin Naqvi, the nomination process awaits the official nod from PCB Patron-in-Chief and Pakistan Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
Once confirmed, Naqvi is set to replace Zaka Ashraf in the Board of Governors, assuming the role of Chairman of the PCB.
Mohsin Naqvi, who has been serving as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab for the past year, earlier expressed his commitment to address the challenges facing Pakistan cricket. “I will try to fix the issues affecting Pakistan cricket. Reforms in cricket are the need of the hour,” Naqvi asserted, speaking to reporters soon after the news of his potential appointment broke.
