Man sentenced to five years in prison for slandering his ex-wife online

On Thursday, a man was sentenced to five years in prison for harassing his ex-wife for publishing indecent photos on the Internet.

Arshad Hadi was also fined 3 million rupees, failure to pay will result in an additional 6 months in prison. After the sentence was pronounced, he was arrested in court.

The prosecutor said that the woman had filed for a divorce from the defendant, but the defendant threatened her that if she did not withdraw her application, she would spread her indecent photos and videos on the Internet.

During the trial, she told the court that she married Hardy in Karachi in 2015. This is their second marriage because she is a divorced and he is a married man. She said she later lived with him in Dubai, where he physically abused her.

She added that when she filed for a divorce and moved back to Karachi, the defendant followed her and took her to his residence, where she was photographed and an obscene video was recorded.

She said that the defendant subsequently threatened her that if she did not withdraw from the divorce request, he would spread the photos on the Internet. She asserted that he did this after the court decided in her favor. The defendant denied the charges and chose to resist.

The prosecutor presented evidence collected from laptops, tablets and smartphones, proving that the above photos and videos were sent by the defendant to the woman’s father and sister and spread on Facebook using false accounts.

While reading the verdict, the judge observed that the prosecution had successfully established the charges against the defendant and expressed appreciation for the forensic investigation conducted by the FBI’s Cybercrime Department.

According to Article 21 of the Electronic Crime Prevention Act, Hardy was sentenced to 5 years, according to Article 419 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), 5 years, and according to Article 500 of the PPC, the crime is two years. All sentences will run simultaneously.
