One day after the National Working Group of the Drug Administration of Pakistan (DRAP) to combat counterfeit drugs discovered a large number of drugs in a raid, federal and provincial investigation agencies launched a joint and separate investigation into the drug theft case in public hospitals in Sindh. Officials said on Tuesday that the Kachigali Medical Market and shops and warehouses in the Husseinabad area of Karachi.

The management of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and the Ruth Pfau Civilian Hospital in Karachi also launched an internal investigation. Earlier, DRAP officials claimed to have seized drugs stolen from these medical institutions during the raid. These drugs were clearly marked “Sindh Government property” and’NICVD’, but argued that the theft of drugs from their medical institutions is impossible.

The Provincial Department of Health also decided to launch a criminal investigation into the scandal and asked the director of the Provincial Department of Health and the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACE) to conduct a department-level investigation to expose the factors that deprived people of free drugs.

“Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho takes this issue very seriously and immediately instructs the Sindh Health Minister to request the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACE) to investigate this matter. Sindh Health Council Secretary Muhammad Qasim Soomro (Muhammad Qasim Soomro) In an interview with “News” on Tuesday, he said that he was also asked to launch a departmental investigation into the scam.

He said that the theft of medicines from public health facilities is a serious crime, and they decided not to spare anyone involved. “We spend billions of rupees to provide medicines to those in need and worthy, but some antisocial elements are involved in stealing medicines and depriving the poor of facilities, which is unacceptable.”

When asked, Somro said that he believes that if a federal agency is investigating the matter and wants to bring the perpetrators to justice, the provincial health department should not object to it and should cooperate with them, but no one has been in contact yet. The health sector is in this regard.

The management of NICVD and CHK set up an investigation committee on Tuesday to investigate the suspected theft of drugs from their pharmacies, but they stated that due to strict monitoring and surveillance systems, it is impossible to steal drugs from their systems.

“I recently took over CHK and took measures to stop various thefts. I have set up an investigation committee composed of two senior assistant medical directors and another official to investigate the theft report and submit the report within a week,” CHK Medical Director Dr. Akram Sultan told the news.

When an NICVD official announced an investigation into these allegations, they said that the seal found on the recovered drugs was not the seal they used to mark the drug, but added that their committee will check the batch number and invoice to determine whether the drug belongs to NICVD or not. .

At the same time, officials from the Federal Investigation Agency stated that they had also launched an investigation, saying that they would involve the health officials and drug control bureaus of Sindh province, including drug inspectors, in the investigation because they were suspected of playing a role in the flooding of the market . In Karachi and other cities in Sindh province, counterfeit medicines, fake medicines, unregistered and smuggled medicines are sold.

“Extensive investigations have been launched against the officials of the Provincial Food and Drug Administration, especially the staff of the Provincial Food and Drug Administration, because they have received evidence against them for their alleged funding of counterfeit, counterfeit, unregistered and smuggled drugs. These people are joking about human lives, and they cannot be allowed to use their influence to promote illegal drugs,” an official of the agency said.
