Before the monsoon season, K-Electric reiterated the importance of safety during and after expected rainfall. The power company has urged its valued customers to take the necessary precautions to avoid any safety hazards.

It said in a statement on Wednesday that Karachi is one of the most severely affected cities in Pakistan during the 2020 monsoon season, and many areas are unable to move due to urban flooding and waterlogging.

Aware of the potential safety hazards that may be caused by bad weather, KE recommends that citizens keep a safe distance from the power infrastructure, including utility poles, diagonal lines for supporting utility poles, transformers, and substations.

“KE has been actively working to mitigate the risks caused by bad weather. At the same time, the utility company encourages consumers to identify safety hazards so that the KE team can take immediate remedial measures, especially in Kundas [illegal connections] Is used to illegally obtain electricity,” the press statement said.

According to various studies, a large part of Karachi is unplanned, including encroachment on different areas and surrounding power infrastructure. These areas and occupied areas are full of illegal hooks (kundas). Although KE often promotes the removal of these and reports such infringements to law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities, the power company lamented the illegal hook reconnection in its media statement.
