Karachi’s coronavirus infection rate reaches 23.6%

The Sindh Ministry of Health stated that the positive rate of coronavirus in Karachi reached 23.6% on Saturday, and the provincial government is preparing to tomorrow.

The health department said that in the past 24 hours, the city had conducted 3,091 tests, of which 725 were positive, bringing the city’s positive rate to 23.6%.

The provincial health department stated that the number of COVID-19 patients was higher than in June 2020 because it pointed out that it was the Delta variant that originally appeared in India that caused the rapid spread of the disease.

According to official data, the four major hospitals in the city are operating at full capacity, with a total of 1,100 patients admitted.

At the same time, according to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, 19 more patients died overnight, bringing the death toll in the province to 5,833.

The Chief Minister said in a statement that after 18,122 tests have been conducted, 2,343 new cases have emerged — bringing the province’s infection rate to 12.7%.

Sindh province re-implements COVID-19 restrictions

On Friday, the Sindh provincial government announced that after the province’s positive rate exceeds 10%, it will re-impose coronavirus restrictions on the province from Monday.

The decision was made at the provincial coronavirus task force meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Sindh Province Murad Ali Shah.


New restrictions that will be implemented starting Monday:

  • Educational institutions will be closed from July 26th to 31st.
  • The exam will proceed as planned.
  • Offices-private and public-operate at 50% capacity.
  • All activities and parties are “totally prohibited”, including indoor and outdoor weddings.
  • All public places are kept closed to tourists.
  • The restaurant prohibits indoor and outdoor dining
  • The restaurant provides take-out service until 10pm and delivery service until 12am.
  • Business hours are from 6 am to 6 pm.

However, independent grocery stores, dairy stores, bakeries, fruit/vegetable suppliers and pharmacies are not subject to this rule.
