Punjab district judge banned from using social media platforms to convey court-related information

In a notice issued after the approval of the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Amir Bati, the use of social media to disseminate judicial-related content has been restricted, claiming that it violated the judge’s code of conduct.

Judges have been advised to communicate on legal matters through the Lahore High Court Registry and immediately leave the non-governmental WhatsApp group.

The notice stated that the use of social media to communicate legal issues is detrimental to the reputation of judges, and the department will take action against judges found to have violated the order.

Such information is disseminated and displayed in print and electronic media, and there is no evidence to prove the credibility of the information. Judicial personnel should not do so through any social media means, especially in connection with judicial institutions.

LHC CJ has instructed judicial officers to restrict their social life and avoid using social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
