Introducing Wired Resilient Residents in 2021

WIRED’s Resilience Residency used to be Announced earlier this year Provide opportunities for non-reporters to report on how technology and science are changing their own industries. More than 200 people responded to our call for proposals, representing 30 different states and dozens of fields.

Today, we are happy to introduce the five residents of 2021. Over the next six months, they will work with WIRED’s editorial team to tell powerful stories from an insider’s perspective and start new conversations about the future. Our goal is to allow everyone-residents, WIRED employees and our audience-to benefit from the exchange of expertise, opinions and experience.

Know the residents

Melanie Canales He is the first generation of Peruvian-American farmers and beekeepers, living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, on the land of Monacan and Mannajoak. Her work focuses on establishing healthy relationships between people and the surrounding ecosystem through soil regeneration and food sovereignty. As a resident, she is interested in stories about land management and the way communities began to decolonize agriculture to make it more accessible and sustainable.

Jack Galdor, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, BCGP, is a community pharmacist with a background in academia, healthcare quality and technology. His resident focuses on the transformation of community pharmacy practices and patient empowerment. Galdo is an alumnus of the University of Georgia and Sanford University and lives in Alabama with his family.

Harris Quinn He is the founder of the menswear brand H. Goose. His residency project will focus on changes in the apparel industry and the evolution of our dress code. Prior to this, he founded a digital marketing startup and worked as an active cryptographic linguist in the U.S. Navy for 6 years. He lives in Greenville, South Carolina.

Enrique Sanabria He is a senior airport engineer with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. His curiosity about technology turned into a passion for aviation. He spent most of his life in New York Metropolitan Airport and its surrounding areas, as both an amateur and a technical expert. His place of residence will explore the airport of the future.

Susita Shirodka Is an urban sketcher, illustrator and educator based in San Jose, California. She has received funding from the Knight Foundation and Belle Foundation. Suhita will use visual reporting to study how the grassroots art community uses technology to adapt, innovate and reinvent itself.
