Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, head of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, expressed serious concerns about the natural gas load shedding and supply pressure at the industrial and compressed natural gas stations in Sindh.
In a statement issued on Saturday, JI leaders condemned Sui Nan Gas Company (SSGC) and accused it of incubating and cooperating in conspiracy to introduce expensive RLNG as a natural gas substitute for the province’s industries, especially in Karachi.
Rahman said that if the province gets the natural gas supply it deserves, the city’s industry will not face a shortage of natural gas. He also highlighted the plight of people related to the natural gas and compressed natural gas industries.
JI leaders said that if some units use more gas than usual, the relevant departments will cut off the company’s natural gas connection without prior notice. He said that when plant owners contacted SSGC to restore their natural gas connection, they were being forced to switch to the expensive RLNG option.
He also stated that the gas company’s situation and policies are causing absolute injustice to the city’s industrial sector, and warned that this general situation will no longer be tolerated.
He pointed out that the widespread gas conditions in metropolises have made it difficult for related industries to complete export orders on time. He warned SSGC to reform, otherwise he will negotiate with stakeholders to develop a strategy on the issue. He asked the federal government to provide Sindh with the amount of natural gas due to ensure the smooth progress of the industrial process.
