Dilip Kumar was one of the most iconic actors in Indian cinema during the golden age of the 1940s and 1960s. His family said he died in the western city of Mumbai. He is 98 years old.

The veteran actor’s wife, Saira Banu, is a former Bollywood actress.
Kumar has starred in some of the most iconic and successful films in Indian cinema, including Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Naya Daur, Ram Aur Shyam and Madhumati.
This actor was born in Peshawar, Pakistan on December 11, 1922, his original name was Muhammad Yusuf Khan. His screen name was recommended by Devika Rani, who was cast in his first film Jwar Bhata in 1944.
Kumar started selling fruit, overcoming early failures and opposition from his family, becoming one of Bollywood’s most accomplished and respected movie stars.
He has a contemplative beauty, messy hair and low voice. He is nicknamed “The King of Tragedy”. His career spans more than 50 years and has made nearly 60 movies.
But he rejected the opportunity to play Sharif Ali in David Lane’s 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia, thus missing international fame. This part is performed by Egyptian actor Omar Sharif.
