The new chief executive of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, believes that he will be able to solve the long-standing problems in the city and provide the people with much-needed relief.

Wahab said that as many issues in Karachi remain unresolved, the relationship between the Sindh provincial government and local institutions has been very tense.

He explained: “Even a small change can make it clear to the public that Karachi’s administrative staff can or cannot use the same laws and powers to do.”

Wahab said the Karachi people will see the communication gap between the provincial government and the local government bridged because he represents both.

He questioned the claims repeatedly supported by PTI and MQM that Karachi’s local institutions were not authorized.

“If the local government is not authorized [as critics say] So which government does the district municipal company belong to? He asked.

The chief executive of Karachi said that the Sindh provincial government has always given the city’s DMC powers. However, he stated that the DMCs did not listen to the views of the mayor of Karachi, and the mayor did not listen to the views of the DMCs.

“Whenever you are in charge of any office, there will be some problems,” he said. “DMC has the power, but they outsourced the project to the Solid Waste Management Committee,” he added.

“Sindh Provincial Government ignores Karachi traffic”

Wahab acknowledged that the provincial government has not given the city’s public transportation system the attention it deserves and added that the Sindh provincial government is making great efforts to improve it.

“By December this year or the first quarter of 2022, the Sindh provincial government will provide 200 new buses to Karachi,” he said. “In addition, the red line bus funded by the Asian Development Bank will also start construction within two months,” he added.

“We made a mistake in the transportation department, but let me assure you that with a plan in place, we will deliver,” he promised.

Governor supports Wahab

In answering a question, the Chief Executive of Karachi said that he met with the Governor of Sindh Province Imran Ismail at the oath ceremony of the new minister of Sindh yesterday, and they discussed his appointment as the Chief Executive of Karachi.

Wahab said that although Ismail opposed his appointment, he wished him good luck and expressed his willingness to cooperate in the days to come.

Murtaza Wahab was appointed Chief Executive of Karachi

Wahab was appointed by the local government (LG) department as the administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Thursday.

The LG department has issued a formal notice announcing the appointment.

With reference to the relevant chapters of the Sindh Local Government Law and the decision of the Sindh Cabinet, the notice stated that Wahab had taken over as the new KMC administrator, replacing Laeeq Ahmed, with immediate effect.

After the appointment, Wahab thanked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and CM Shah on his official Twitter account for appointing him as administrator.

“I thank Chairman Bilawal, President Zardari, Adi Faryal and CM Sindh for giving me the opportunity to serve my city. It is an honor for me and my entire family and Insha’Allah. I will do my best to serve Karachi,” he Said.
