Muzaffarabad: South African cricketer Herschel Gibbs has arrived in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where he joined his Kashmir Premier League (KPL) team.

The international cricketer arrived in the AJK capital earlier today and was awarded his Overseas Warriors No. 4 jersey by the team owner.

Herschelle Gibbs’ participation is significant because the player ignored the threat of the Indian Cricket Control Council (BCCI) and agreed to participate in the first KPL season at the Muzaffarabad Cricket Ground.

BCCI has threatened former international cricket players not to participate in KPL matches and warned them that if they go to Pakistan, the gate of Indian cricket will be closed to them.

Former British cricketers Monty Panesar and Herschelle Gibbs publicly exposed the Indian board of directors and their actions to damage KPL.

The six foreign cricket players who withdrew from KPL are Matt Prior, Phil Mustard, Owais Shah, Tenu Best and Monty Panesar.

Sources said that BCCI officials have contacted the English and African cricket teams and threatened that if they participate in the KPL, their players will be barred from entering India.

As the situation unfolded, the South African cricketer blasted BCCI on Twitter to stop him.

BCCI also contacted the International Cricket Council (ICC) to oppose the Kashmir League and asked it not to recognize the tournament.

Approved by PCB, KPL is a large-scale cricket tournament in T20 format, which aims to promote the importance and talents of Kashmir on a global scale.

Six teams participated in the competition: the Bagh Stallions, the Millpool Royals, the Overseas Warriors, the Muzaffarabad Tigers, the Rolla Kot Hawks and the Kotley Lions.
