Islamabad: Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Assad Omar on behalf of the Center on Tuesday fully supported the Sindh provincial government in response to the shocking coronavirus situation in the province.

During the meeting, the minister also served as the head of the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), which leads the country’s COVID-19 fight, and he appreciated the measures taken by the Sindh provincial government to curb the spread of the virus.

Omar said that the center is closely monitoring the situation in Sindh.

The forum was informed that the positive rate of coronavirus in Karachi City has reached 26.32% due to violations of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Coronavirus. The meeting heard about the pressure on the hospital and the urgent need to vaccinate as many people as possible.

At the same time, the meeting was also informed that the number of COVID-19 patients in the intensive care of Sindh Provincial Hospital has reached 980.

The Minister informed the meeting that the measures taken by the National Olympic Committee included timely assistance to law enforcement agencies in implementing standard operating procedures, improving existing medical facilities, timely supply of oxygen, and continuous supply of vaccines.

Sindh’s coronavirus positive rate hits a new high in a week

As the province’s positive case rate continues to rise, the fourth wave of coronavirus has hit Sindh in an all-round way.

The Sindh Health Department spokesperson reported that in the past 24 hours, Karachi had conducted 7,783 COVID-19 tests, of which 1,932 people tested positive, and the positive rate in Karachi reached 26.32%.

In addition, the rate of positive COVID-19 cases in Hyderabad and other parts of Sindh has also increased.

In the past 24 hours, the positive rate in Hyderabad was 6.34%, and the positive rate in other parts of Sindh increased from 1.87% to 3.40%.

The spokesperson further added that the total number of coronavirus cases in Sindh reached the highest level in a week, at 12.74%.

In total, a total of 18,112 tests were carried out across the province, of which 2,308 people tested positive and 7 people died of the virus.

Sindh Province prohibits unnecessary activities after 6pm

In the context of the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the province, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has issued an order prohibiting unnecessary actions after 6 pm.

These orders were issued after reviewing the latest pandemic situation at a provincial task force meeting held on Tuesday.

CM Shah instructed additional IG police and commissioner Karachi to ensure timely closure of markets, tuition centers and private gyms that are still open.

He urged people to stay at home and avoid going out without a valid reason.
