Former President Mamnoon Hussein dies in Karachi

Former Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussein passed away in Karachi on Wednesday, his son Alsalam Mamnoon confirmed. He is 80 years old.

His son said that Hussein had cancer and had been receiving treatment in a private hospital for the past two weeks.

Hussein is the 12th President of Pakistan. He served from 2013 to 2018 during his term of PML-N. He is one of the most senior PML-N leaders.

Mamnoon Hussain was originally a businessman and was born on December 23, 1940 in Agra, India. He started his political career as a member of the Muslim League in 1969. At that time, when Zain Noorani, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, was the chairman of the alliance, he was appointed as the joint secretary of the Karachi branch of the alliance.

The deceased obtained an MBA degree from the prestigious Karachi School of Business Administration (IBA).

Since Nawaz Sharif joined the opposition in 1993, he has actively participated in PML-N. Less than six months before Hussein was appointed as the governor of Sindh by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999, he served as an adviser to the Chief Minister of the Province (Lyakat Ali Jatoi). After the declaration of military rule in October 1999, when many PML-N leaders abandoned their party, Hussein stood firmly with Nawaz Sharif.

Condolences

After the news of Mamnoon Hussain’s death came out, condolences from PML-N, other opposition party and government leaders began to flood in.

“Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chairman and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the death of former President Mamnoon Hussein,” the Pakistan Muslim League issued from its official account. The tweet said.

“Today, we have lost a person who loves Pakistan and has a precious heart. He is a trustworthy, loyal and ideological ally of Nawaz Sharif.”

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussein. He is a sincere man who serves Pakistan with the utmost sincerity. May Allah Almighty let him have a place in the wave of mercy. Amen, Said the vice president of PML-N. President Mariam Nawaz.

The President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, expressed condolences for Hussein’s death and expressed deep sorrow at the news.

PPP Senator Murtaza Wahab expressed condolences on Twitter.

“I heard the tragic news of the death of President Mamnoon Hussein. He served his office with grace and dignity. May Allah SWT bless his soul and provide strength to the family who have lost their loved ones,” he wrote.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi wrote on Twitter: “I express my deepest condolences for the passing of former Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussein. May Allah grant his family to bear this. The power of great loss.”

“May Allah rest in peace (Pakistan’s former President) Mamnoon Hussain sb’s soul, and give his family and friends enough strength to deal with this huge loss,” PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan tweeted.

Similarly, Amir of the Islamic Jihad also expressed his condolences and prayed for the dead souls.

“I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of former President Mamnoon Hussein. We belong to Allah and we will return to Allah. May Allah forgive him and give his family patience. Amin.”

Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri also expressed their grief and prayed.

MQM’s Faisal Subzwari and PTI MNA Sher Ali Arbab and several other politicians also expressed their condolences.
