The former Conservative Party congressman launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Johnson, calling him a “bad governor.”

The colorful former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Birkow, left the Conservative Party to join the opposition Labour Party and launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In an interview with The Observer published on Sunday, the former congressman stated that the Conservative Party under Johnson’s leadership was “reactionary, populist, nationalist, and sometimes xenophobic.”

Berkau resigned as Speaker in October 2019. He said that he joined the Labour Party a few weeks ago because he shares the values of the Labour Party.

“My motivation comes from support for equality, social justice and internationalism. That is the Labor Party brand,” he said. “I came to the conclusion that this government needs to be replaced. The reality is that the Labour Party is the only tool that can achieve this goal. There is no other reliable option.”

Bercow described the prime minister as “a successful candidate, but a terrible governor.”

“I don’t think he has any vision for a fairer society, desire for social mobility or any passion for making people less fortunate than him better. I think more and more people are tired of lies and tired of lies. Empty slogans, tired of not fulfilling them,” he said.

‘Command, command’

Bercow served as a Conservative MP for Buckingham for 12 years before being elected speaker in 2009, becoming the youngest person to hold the role for 100 years.

Bercow is known for making noisy MPs stand in line with the shouts of “command, command”, and he finds himself in the middle of more than three years of intense parliamentary debate about Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.

His series of decisions have angered the ruling Conservative Party, which they believe is an attempt to hinder Brexit and support the “remaining” party.

The 58-year-old strongly denies that he ever favored either side, but his ruling and extraordinary personality have won praise from pro-Europeans and followers around the world.

His later years as Speaker were overshadowed by accusations of bullying parliament staff, which he denied.
