Islamabad: Pakistan strongly condemned the “baseless” comments made by Canadian Minister Chris Alexander on Monday and made “baseless and misleading” assertions about Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a series of tweets that such remarks exposed a complete lack of understanding of the problem and ignorance of the facts on the ground.

“Now, when the world recognizes that Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan have consistently insisted that the Afghanistan conflict cannot be resolved through military solutions and that it requires an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political solution, such unwarranted comments are regrettable,” said the statement.
