A statement on Friday said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized India for the extrajudicial killing of a 17-year-old innocent Kashmiri in the occupied Kurgan region of Kashmir.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that extrajudicial executions, torture during detention, enforced disappearance and imprisonment have become the norm in IOJK’s suppression of Kashmiris.

According to the Associated Press, Indian police said on Wednesday that the Indian army had killed three suspected militants in the crossfire, after which the occupying forces recovered one rifle and two pistols.

As the situation unfolded, the 17-year-old Zakir Bashir’s family said they had detained him after they picked him up from home. They then killed him while in custody and described him as an activist who was killed in a gun battle.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “It is reported that this young cricket player was brutally tortured by the Indian occupation forces before being shot.”

In this year alone, the Indian occupying forces extrajudicially killed 57 innocent Kashmiris; arbitrarily detained and arrested 350 Kashmiris; and destroyed 58 houses of Kashmiris, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out.

“As recommended by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in its 2018 and 2019 reports, India’s serious and systematic human rights violations in IOJK require investigation by the United Nations Commission of Investigation (COI),” it said .

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded that India must realize that no amount of barbarity can conquer Kashmiris, nor can it destroy their will in their struggle for the right to self-determination.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added: “We urge the international community to fulfill its obligation to protect unarmed Kashmiris from IOJK’s serious human rights violations and hold India accountable for its serious crimes against humanity.”
