Islamabad: Foreign Minister Mahdum Shah Mahmoud Qureshi condemned India’s negative attitude and conspiracy towards the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) and called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to pay attention to India’s actions.

Qureshi said in an interview with the media at the Capitol: “Kashmiri players from Azad Kashmir or India-controlled Kashmir should be encouraged to perform well.”

“Kashmiris are very interested in cricket. They are waiting for the KPL to be held. India should reconsider its position because this attitude will only bring shame to the country.”

Shah Mahmoud Qureshi called on the Narendra Modi government to host the same cricket match in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK).

“Who prevented you from doing this?” he asked. He also reminded India not to politicize sports, because hosting the Kashmir Premier League is a normal event.

BCCI threatens foreign players

BCCI was upset about the KPL held in Pakistan and issued a warning to other cricket committees last week to allow their players to participate in the KPL.

Under the threat of the Indian Cricket Committee, several foreign cricket players withdrew from the tournament scheduled to start on August 6. However, KPL Chairman Arif Malik has stated that the game will proceed as scheduled and added that Pakistani cricketers will participate.

Sources said that the Indian board had threatened foreign players through their agents, saying that if they went to Kashmir, the gates of Indian cricket, including IPL, would be closed to them.

The six foreign cricket players who withdrew from KPL are Monty Panesar, Matt Prior, Phil Mustard, Owais Shah and Tenu Best.

PCB Slam BCCI

The Pakistan Cricket Committee (PCB) on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction with reports that the Indian Cricket Control Committee (BCCI) called multiple ICC members and forced them to withdraw retired cricketers from the Kashmir Premier League.

The Cricket Committee’s statement said: “PCB believes that because KPL has been approved by PCB, BCCI once again violated international norms and the spirit of gentleman sports and interfered with the internal affairs of ICC members.”
