UEFA said it is also investigating the lighting of fireworks by English fans and the destruction of the Danish national anthem.

At the decisive moment of the European Cup semi-finals in 2020, the European football governing body UEFA has begun disciplinary action against England because the Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel used a laser pointer.

Television footage showed that Schmeichel was aimed with a green laser by a spectator. England captain Harry Kane stepped up the penalty kick in overtime, allowing the home team to win 2-1 at Wembley on Wednesday.

The goalkeeper saved Kane’s initial efforts, but could not prevent Gareth Southgate’s team from reaching the final against Italy on Sunday.

UEFA said on Thursday that it is also investigating the display of fireworks by England fans and the destruction of the national anthem.

When the Danish national anthem played before the kick-off, the fans booed.

Last week, when England defeated Joachim Loew’s team in the 16th round, people also heard ridicule when the German national anthem was played at Wembley.

UEFA said in a statement: “This case will be handled by UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary agencies in due course.”

England hopes to win its first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup and will face Italy in the final of the European Championship at Wembley on Sunday.
