Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Special Assistant to Health Issues Dr. Faisal Sultan said on Thursday that the upcoming Eid al-Adha will be in a “limited and closed” environment, implying that more restrictive measures will be taken in the case of fear of the fourth wave To curb the spread of the virus.

“This variant is spreading at a rate of 50-60%,” he said.

When talking about the importance of the coronavirus vaccine, Dr. Sultan said that the current COVID-19 vaccine is applicable to all types of variants of the virus.

However, he said that each vaccine has an effective rate, and people who have been vaccinated before may be infected with the virus again.

Dr. Sultan said that based on data collected by NCOC, it is clear that the fourth wave of coronavirus is beginning in Pakistan. He said that after the number of infected cases has fallen, Karachi and other big cities have reported high positive rates.

When asked to determine the main reason for the surge in Pakistan’s cases, the prime minister’s aides said that people were tired of shutting down business activities again and again due to different waves of infection. He said that as a result, many people gave up wearing masks and took other preventive measures, leading to a surge in infection cases.

“However, we must bear in mind that the coronavirus vaccine is the most effective weapon against the coronavirus,” he said, adding that everyone must receive at least one dose of the vaccine.

Responding to a question about the coronavirus vaccination certificate, Dr. Sudan said that the government has established a portal that can help solve people’s problems related to obtaining the certificate.

He said that starting from August, if people wish to travel within Pakistan, they will be required to show a certificate for the coronavirus vaccine.

Positive rate is higher than 5%

Pakistan’s coronavirus positive rate exceeded 5% nearly a month later on Thursday morning as the country continues to report a surge in its daily number of cases.

According to NCOC data, on May 24 this year, the positive rate of coronavirus in Pakistan was 5.21%. Currently, the infection rate is 5.52%.

Data from the NCOC on Thursday showed that 48,910 tests were performed in the past 24 hours, of which 2,545 tested positive for the coronavirus.

As the virus caused 47 new deaths, the national death toll soared to 22,689.

The number of active cases in the country crossed the 40,000 mark a day ago and is currently 42,330.

According to the official portal, the number of people recovering from the coronavirus in the country has reached 916,373, and the total number of confirmed cases has reached 981,392.
