The Sri Lanka cricket governing body announced on Friday that it has postponed the 2021 Sri Lanka Premier League to November due to the absence of players.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Team issued a statement saying: “The 2021 Lanka Premier League, originally scheduled to start on July 29, 2021, has now been rescheduled to be held from November 19 to December 12, 2021.”
The statement said that the league management committee has rescheduled the game time so that “more players from leading cricket countries” can participate in the league.
The statement said: “The Council is assessing that at least one similar Premier League and several international tournaments will be held between cricket countries during the period to August 2021. During this period, the second edition of the LPL is expected to take place.”
Sri Lanka Cricket announced the start of the league last year, and even at that time, it also stated that the game will be held in August and September.
However, the league could not be held on the scheduled date, and then the Sri Lanka Cricket Team held its first match in Hambantota from November 26 to December 16.
The tournament has five teams named after different cities in Sri Lanka. The teams are the Colombo Kings, Dambulla Vikings, Jaffna Stallions, Galle Gladiators and Kandy Ivory.
