DoU is committed to healthcare research and development

Rawalpindi: The National Medical University (NUMS) and a leading multinational regional pharmaceutical company signed a 5-year document of understanding (DOU) here on Friday to strengthen cooperation in healthcare-related research and development.

The DOU was signed by NUMS Vice President Lt Gen (r) Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed and Managing Director and CEO CCL Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd Lahore Dr Shahzad Khan held a simple ceremony here on Friday.

Present at the meeting were Vice President and Academic Major General (r) Saleem Ahmad Khan, Vice President and Chief Executive (r) Syed Ammar Reza Hamdani, and NUMS Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) Awais e Director Siraj and Head of Medical Affairs CCL Bina Ali.

Under the leadership of DOU, pharmaceutical companies expressed their willingness to carry out capacity building and training, with special emphasis on drug testing including bioequivalence research, clinical trials and health product development, which will help support NUMS in its efforts to improve people’s quality of life . It added that CCL actively seeks opportunities to contribute to the development of clinical research, products and capabilities of key stakeholders.

In his brief speech, the vice president of NUMS said: “Our job and your job is to provide patients with healthcare services. We fully support you, because our success will depend on your success.”

The pharmaceutical company has an annual turnover of 8 billion rupees and currently operates in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and produces more than 200 products in the main therapeutic categories.

Dr. Shahzad, managing director of the country’s second largest pharmaceutical exporter, said after the ceremony: “As an organization, we firmly believe that NUMS is the organization that has the greatest impact on the country’s overall healthcare system. It is credible and reliable. The voice heard. We can give back to the society through the larger platform provided by NUMS.”

DOU stated that CCL Pharmaceuticals and strategic industry partnerships are actively involved in the development, manufacturing and marketing of generic pharmaceutical products to meet the changing needs of healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers.
