Dasu incident investigation has entered the final stage: Sheikh Rasheed

Islamabad: Federal Minister of the Interior Sheikh Rashid said that the investigation into the Dasu incident has entered the final stage. The accident caused 12 deaths, including 9 Chinese citizens.

Rashid said that he has instructed security agencies to further improve the safety of Chinese citizens.

When briefing the media in Islamabad, Rashid said that 15 Chinese officials had arrived in Pakistan for investigation, and the Minister of Internal Affairs of China also talked to him about the Dasu accident.

Dasu incident: Pakistan, China agreed to complete the investigation as soon as possible

Pakistan and China agreed on Saturday to complete the investigation of the Dasu bus accident as soon as possible.

The agreement was reached during a telephone meeting between China’s Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi and Rashid. The call lasted more than half an hour.

This is the second high-level contact within two days after Prime Minister Imran Khan called Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. Li Keqiang assured him that he would fully investigate the matter. The Minister of Public Security of China spoke on the phone and condemned the incident.

Zhao expressed grief over the loss of the precious lives of Pakistanis and said that he had called Rashid on the instructions of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The two officials exchanged views on the progress of the current investigation and agreed to complete the investigation as soon as possible.

Rashid told his Chinese counterparts that the investigation was conducted at the highest level under the direction of Prime Minister Khan and will be completed soon.

At a media briefing on Saturday afternoon, Rashid said that the accident occurred on the Karakoram Highway. He informed that a 15-member Chinese investigation team visited the accident site yesterday and added that the injured were being treated at the Pakistan Army Hospital.

“It is our duty to protect the lives and property of the Chinese people here. The safety of their people will be guaranteed,” Rashid said, sharing that China’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has been involved.

He said that the Prime Minister has asked him and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi to go to China.

The Minister of the Interior emphasized that China-Pakistan friendship is eternal and the accident will not affect this friendship. He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the friendship between Pakistan’s enemies and China will not be forgiven.

Rashid said that the Ministry of the Interior is everywhere.

He said that India will not let go of any opportunity to intervene in Pakistan, and Pakistan is an advocate of peace. He added that peace in Pakistan is related to peace in Afghanistan, which is why the government advocates peace in Afghanistan.

He reiterated that Pakistan will allow its territory to be used against Afghanistan.

The Chinese team visits Dasu today

An investigation team composed of Chinese security officials will visit Dasu today as part of a joint investigation into the incident to determine the facts.

Pakistani security officials will brief them on the situation.

‘Terrorism cannot be ruled out’

On Thursday, Information Minister Fawad Chowdhury stated that the Dassault accident “terrorism cannot be ruled out.”

“The preliminary investigation into the Dasu incident has now confirmed that there are traces of explosives,” The minister once said.

He once stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan “personally supervises all developments in this area” and that the government is coordinating closely with the Chinese Embassy.

“We are committed to jointly combating the threat of terrorism,” he said.

The bus crashed into the ravine

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that on Wednesday, a bus carrying Chinese workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa crashed into a ravine “after a mechanical failure caused a gas leak and an explosion.”

According to the statement, the Chinese workers and the accompanying Pakistani staff are “going to their workplace for an ongoing project.”
