Coronavirus death toll in Pakistan surges to more than 23,000

Data released by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) on Sunday showed that in the past 24 hours, another 45 people died from the new coronavirus, bringing the death toll across Pakistan to more than 23,000.
According to NCOC data, 44,579 coronavirus tests were conducted nationwide in the past 24 hours, of which 2,819 were positive. The result means that Pakistan’s positive rate of coronavirus is 6.3%.
On the other hand, 45 new deaths means that the national death toll is 23,016.
The total number of recovered patients in Pakistan is 925,958 and the number of active cases is 55,720.
Due to the surge in cases, Sindh will re-implement COVID-19 restrictions from Monday
On Friday, the Sindh provincial government announced that after the province’s positive rate exceeds 10%, it will re-impose coronavirus restrictions on the province from Monday.
The decision was made at the provincial coronavirus task force meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Sindh Province Murad Ali Shah.
According to the notice issued by the Ministry of the Interior, general enterprises, shopping centers, shops and department stores will only be allowed to operate from 6 am to 6 pm. However, independent grocery stores, dairy stores, bakeries, fruit/vegetable suppliers and pharmacies are not subject to this rule.
The provincial government has “completely banned” all events and gatherings, including weddings and related events, whether held indoors or outdoors.
The authorities also prohibit indoor and outdoor dining in restaurants, and only allow take-out service before 10pm, and no delivery service until midnight.
