Clemson Removes Menstruation Products from Men’s Bathroom

A conservative group at Clemson University has succeeded in its effort to remove menstrual products from the men’s bathrooms across campus.

Earlier this month, the school removed the women’s products from the men’s facilities on campus libraries, just three days after Clemson College Republicans posted about the dispensers in the men’s bathrooms.

“Placing tampon and pad dispensers in the men’s restrooms of Cooper Library is illogical, wasteful, and delusional,” Clemson College Republicans told their school’s paper, The Tiger, in an email. “It is a complete embarrassment that they were put there.”

The group posted an image of a menstrual pad dispenser box in September on X writing, “If you weren’t aware already, Clemson University has tampon/pad dispensers in the MEN’S restrooms located in Cooper Library. We truly live in (clown emoji) world.”

The post was seen by Rep. April Cromer (R-SC) who approached campus leaders to discuss the matter.

“Rep. Cromer spoke with Clemson University’s President Jim Clements and Trustee Nicky McCarter, and the dispensers were promptly removed on September 16, 2023,” Clemson College Republicans Chapter President Trevor Tiedeman told Campus Reform. “The details as to why these dispensers were there are still being found out.”

“However, from what we’ve gathered from university administrators, the dispensers were funded as a capital project through the Graduate Student Government (GSG), but they did not receive approval from the university, which led to their eventual removal,” he continued.

However, a month later, nearly 50 students gathered on campus to protest the sanitary products removal.

Take Back Pride organized a demonstration on campus demanding the dispensers be replaced.

“We are marching for the reinstatement of the menstrual products in the men’s restrooms in Cooper Library and throughout campus,” Pan Tankersley, from the group’s march committee, told the crowd.

Demonstrators said the dispensers were vandalized with hateful slurs towards the transgender community, The Daily Mail reports.

Others said removing the dispensers added to them feeling “not safe on campus.”

“Queer people on this campus are not just going to magically disappear. So instead of working against us, like taking away menstrual products from the men’s bathrooms, making people feel unwelcomed, there should be support for the community that is already fighting to feel safe here,” one demonstrator said.

The Clemons College Republicans had first requested the women’s products be removed from the men’s bathroom in November 2022 but did not receive any response from the school’s administration.

“We haven’t shied away from speaking out about pernicious transgender and LGBT ideology in the past, so we didn’t hesitate to use our voices here either,” Tiedeman told Campus Reform. “We had many students that aren’t even in our club feed us this information about the dispensers, so it goes to show that we are the true strong arm on behalf of conservatives on campus.”
