The new generation of rising golf stars has more friends than enemies. I often see Jordan Spieth and his friends Justin Thomas, Ricky Fowler and Smiley Kaufman in each other’s Instagram stories.

But there is a competition among the budding generation, and that is the competition between Brooks Koepka and Bryson de Chambord. Maybe this is more like a discord—whatever you call it. But the two best players on the PGA Tour had some high-profile quarrels. They enter the 2020 Masters, where De Chambeau is ranked sixth in the world and Koepka is ranked 12th. Before the end of the Augusta national team’s week, they may be asked one or two more times (or a godsend on TV). Things, maybe they will fall into the same group at the weekend).

Take a look back at the important moments in Koepka and DeChambeau’s relationship (so far).

January 2019: Brooks Koepka complains about Bryson DeChambeau’s slow play

Golf is not immune to the discussion of the rhythm of the game that has entered many sports. DeChambeau is one of the slower players on the tour. Every shot is done in a scientific way, which takes more time than your average hitting time on the local court.

Soon after the aforementioned DeChambeau video clip, Koepka was asked about his views on slow play, and at the same time talked about Golf Monthly podcast. This is what Koepka had to say:

“I just don’t understand how it takes one minute and 20 seconds, one minute and 15 seconds to play golf; it is not difficult. It is always between the two clubs; there are short misses and long misses. This is true. It’s driving me crazy, especially when it’s a long hitter, because you know that you have two other people or at least one person hitting the ball before you, so you can do all your calculations; you should have your number Obviously, if you are the first one, you may take 10 more seconds, but it doesn’t take that long to hit the ball, especially if it doesn’t blow 30. If it blows 30, I understand that it takes a minute and some extra time. Gust, you know a slight change, I understand, but if it’s a calm day, then there’s no excuse. Guys are already so slow and a little embarrassing. I just don’t understand why you enforce something and not enforce it. Other things.”

De Chambord has one Reply.

“We were able to complete all this work in 45 seconds, which is actually impressive; people don’t realize that it’s very difficult to complete everything we do in 45 seconds. I think anyone who has questions about this, I Understand, but we are here to work hard for our livelihood, and this is what we want to do. If we want to provide you with the best entertainment, this is part of our process, or at least part of my process.”

“We try to speed up. Trust me, we do our best to speed up and do our best. We don’t want anyone to slow down. I don’t want anyone to slow down. This is only part of the process. Unfortunately, the rules of golf allow it. For a certain period of time, we (using it) reached our greatest potential.”

This PGA Tour The game rhythm rules were updated in January. Any player whose shooting time exceeds 120 seconds will be counted as an extra long shooting time. Then, the referee can impose a single stroke penalty for the second bad time in the tournament and every bad time thereafter. Players will also be fined.

The Tour has compiled a watch list based on ShotLink data, which tells them how long it takes for players to shoot each time (this is not publicly available data). Then officials can choose to monitor particularly bad individuals on a specific basis.

August 2019: DeChambeau admits that Koepka will “kick my ass” in battle

on Sirius XM Radio, DeChambeau and Koepka are on the same show with Michael Collins. They recently met and talked on the practice green of a tournament, and things seemed very friendly. When De Chambeau was asked about this, he put himself in his place.

“To be honest, we know who will win this battle,” De Chambeau said of the hypothetical contest between him and Koepka. “And it’s not me.”

Koepka emphasized this point: “You are right.”

De Chambeau said again: “There is no doubt that I want to make it faster.” Then while showing his youth, he ended his comment in this way: “If I finish in two hours and’a little bit See you later’, I will like it.’ I will play’Fortnite’ all day long.”

July 2020: Koepka attacks Dechambeau with “steroid” tweets

When the PGA Tour recovered from the coronavirus suspension, De Chambeau looked as strong as ever and played farther than any player in tour history. This led to doubts whether DeChambeau’s swelling was all protein shakes and muscle activation as he claimed.

Koepka is also involved. This time he adopted a retweet method, using Kenny Powers GIF to attract DeChambeau.

After winning a game in September, DeChambeau was asked about the increase in his game duration.

“A year ago I was just an ordinary average tour player hitting the ball (like),” De Chambord says“Then I suddenly became stronger, exercising every day, exercising every day, and suddenly-not because of the club, but because of me-I was able to add 20 or 25 yards.”

DeChambeau ended with an inconvenient choice: “You keep me pushing and moving the needle, and (my supporters) will continue to inspire me.”

July 2020: Koepka jokes about Dechambeau’s ants near the ball comment

In the first round of the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, De Chambord hit a tree with a ball. Because there was a red ant near the ball, he demanded to be free from the spot. The request was denied.

Koepka apparently heard the request, and the next day, he drove in a similar place. After lining up on his ball, he walked away and said to his caddy: “There is an ant.”

After a pause, Koepka clarified that he was joking. Nick Faldo commented on the radio: “Bryson will definitely cause some entertainment.”

May 2021: Koepka reacts to De Chambeau’s comments in an interview

Koepka appeared to be interrupted by DeChambeau in an interview after the second round of the 2021 PGA Championship when he was discussing the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina.

Warning: clear language is used.

It is difficult to see from the video what DeChambeau said caused Koepka’s reaction. But based on a response to the original tweet from someone who claimed to be there, after Koepka said he found the course “difficult to read”, he said “maybe you should put it on the right line”.

In the next 48 hours, the dispute between DeChambeau and Koepka spread to social media.

After NFL quarterback Aaron Rogers was announced as DeChambeau’s partner in the “game” with Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady, Koepka made the first goal.

When DeChambeau responded to his “free life” in Koepka’s mind, Koepka shared a shot of a fan calling DeChambeau “Brooksie” during the PGA Championship practice session.

The U.S. Golf Association is It is said that Arrange a special team for the US Open, pairing Koepka and DeChambeau with the last three winners Gary Woodland. We can only hope.
