Karachi: Pakistani cricket team captain Babar Azam added a bit of feather to his hat with 158 gorgeous results in the third ODI match against England in Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday.
Babar hit at most four times in his 139 innings, hitting 14 boundaries, which also brought his 14th ODI hundred-in his 81st innings-making him the fastest to reach 14 milestones in the ODI century.
Hashim Amla of South Africa completed 14 ODI centuries in 84 innings, while David Warner of Australia took 98 innings to get there. India’s Virat Kohli took 103 rounds to reach this milestone.
This is also the third ODI hundred people of Babar on British soil, making him the first Pakistani to do so. Saeed Anwar, Fakhar Zaman and Imam ul Haq each received two ODI hundreds. Babar is the first Pakistani who has run 1,000 times in the UK.
A personal score of 158 is also important in many ways.
In the 2008 Karachi game against India, the Pakistan captain’s score surpassed Shoaib Malik’s 125*, which was the highest score of the Pakistan captain in ODI. This is also the highest score of all Pakistani players in England, beating the previous highest scored Imam ul Haq. The number of individual rounds is 151.
Babar’s 158 points is also the highest individual score of a captain in any bilateral ODI series on English soil. In 2010, Andrew Strauss defeated Bangladesh with 154 points. Before Babar Azam, only two captains scored higher in an England game-Kapil Dev 175* in 1983 and GM Turner 171* in 1975, both during the World Cup.
This is also the highest score of any Asian batsman at the Birmingham Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Babar’s average score on this field is 149.00, the best of all batters who have hit at least four times on this field.
Babar today also scored the third goal of ODI Century as the captain of Pakistan, thus tying with Azha Ali. Together, Pakistan has the largest number of ODIs in the hundreds.
If Babar ran 15 more times, he could have added another feather to his hat, which would make him and Hashim Amla the fastest man in 4,000 ODI runs together.
In the game, Babar and Rizwan added 179 times for the third wicket partnership. This is the best ODI partnership between Pakistan and England, applicable to any ticket gate and any venue.
