Pakistan announced on Wednesday that a 19-member test team will participate in two matches of the ICC World Test Championship against the West Indies. The match will start on August 12 in Sabina Park.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam confirmed the team in a pre-series press conference held via a video link. “It has been agreed to release Harris Rauf and Mohamed Nawaz so that they can return to Pakistan and spend quality time with their families.

He said: “This will also give them an extra few days to relax, regroup and recharge for future commitments, which will start with the series against Afghanistan.”

Babar said that the past 12 months have been difficult, and future cricket matches will be equally challenging and demanding, adding that the team’s decision must include new players, but it must not affect the team’s results and performance.

“The Jamaican course is a great challenge for batsmen, so our batsmen need [join the] Party and show their true potential and talents in two tests. They performed well this year and it is time to bring this confidence into the test series and improve and enhance performance,” he said.

In the 17 test series between the two teams, Pakistan leads the West Indies by a score of 6-5. However, in the eight-match series in the Caribbean, the West Indies clearly lead Pakistan 4-1.

In the last confrontation between the two sides in the 2016-17 season, Pakistan won their first ever Test Series victory with a score of 2-1, thus ending their victory drought in the Caribbean.
