On Saturday, the Counter-Terrorism Court instructed the police in a case related to the chaos that took place in Karachi on May 12, 2007, to provide an anti-Mutahida Kami movement-Pakistani leader Wasim Akhtar ( Witness of Wasim Akhtar).

More than 50 people were murdered and more than 100 were injured as gunmen attacked rallies across the city. These rallies greeted the then-deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chowdhury at Jinnah International Airport. Chaudhry).

At that time, Akhtar served as an adviser to the chief minister of the Ministry of the Interior and enjoyed full ministerial status. After being arrested after his party was suppressed, he was charged in seven of these cases in 2016.

According to the prosecutor, Akhtar abused his power and allowed criminals belonging to the MQM to attack people belonging to other political parties and prevent them from reaching the airport.

ATC-VII instructed the investigating officer to ensure that witnesses appear in court at the next hearing on July 17, because the prosecution could not provide evidence against the defendant, so the case was pending.

Akhtar is currently on bail. In his defense in court when he was prosecuted, he insisted that he was wrongly implicated in these cases because of political and ulterior motives. He was the mayor of Karachi at that time.

These cases are based on Article 147 (punishment for riots), 148 (riots, possession of lethal weapons), 149 (all members of an illegal assembly commit crimes), 109 (punishment for abetting), 324 (punishment for abetting) and 34 (Common intent) At the airport police station.
