
Asad Umar wants more women to participate in sports

Islamabad: Federal Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar emphasized the importance of youth skills development and particularly encourages women to participate in sports.
The Federal Minister’s statement was issued during a meeting with the Director of the Sports Higher Education Commission (HEC) Javed Memon. At the meeting, he heard a briefing on the sports under the Kamyab Jawan plan. The Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives issued a statement on Thursday. .
The statement said: “The talent search for the Youth Sports League and the establishment of a high-performance sports academy center will be implemented in all provinces, AJK and GB through HEC.”
The Minister was informed that under the Kamyab Jawan Sports League, events related to 12 different sports will be organized, including volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, boxing, badminton, hockey and football.
The statement said: “The competition will be held in 28 cities across the country. The 15-25 year old team members selected at the regional level will compete at the regional and national levels.”
The statement said that young players will be selected through trials across the country and will be trained in their respective regional camps for provincial and national sports league competitions.
Establishment of Sports Academy
All sporting events and activities will be organized in cooperation with the Pakistan Olympic Association, the National Sports Federation, and public and private higher education institutions. The talent search program is expected to be launched on August 12 (Youth International Day).
It said: “It also discussed the establishment of the college in detail with the minister and decided to establish the college near the country’s specific sports talent center.”
It added: “Assad Omar has directed that the completion of the mode and implementation of the two projects with fast track and status reports should be submitted within one month.”

After the meeting, the minister stated that he had reviewed two new public sector development plan (PSDP) sports projects under the Kamyab Jawan plan.
“The talent search plan and the plan to develop the sports academy/high-performance center. Both will be completed [through] HEC and all federal units in the country,” he said in a tweet.
“It’s time to reverse decades of neglect of sports.”
