The AJK Election Commission announced on Monday that the election of the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be held on August 17 from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Election Committee stated in the notice that the nomination documents will be submitted from 10 am to 12 pm on August 12, and officials will review them on the same day.

Candidates can withdraw their nomination before August 16 (11:30 am).

The notice stated that voting will be held in the AJK Legislative Assembly Hall from 10 am to 2 pm on August 17.

The newly-elected president will take oath on August 24, as the outgoing President Sardar Masood Khan’s tenure will end on the same day.

Last week, PTI candidate Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi got elected as the new prime minister of Azad Kashmir by a comfortable margin.

President AJK Sardar Masood Khan swore an oath to him, after which he became the 13th Prime Minister of the region, succeeding former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider in power.

Niazi won the Premier League title by 33 votes.

PPP and PML-N joint candidate Chaudhry Lateef Akbar won only 15 votes.

Niazi won the AJK poll for the LA-18 constituency. He is not one of the main candidates for this important position. Initially, barristers Sultan Mahmood and Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan were considered AJK PM.

After the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, the PTI was victorious and won a total of 32 seats in the parliament.
