After three days of hard work, the Karakoram Highway has been opened to extensive traffic, the International Service Public Relations (ISPR) reported in an announcement.

According to military media, the Frontier Work Organization (FWO) has been fighting day and night to open up highways.

ISPR said: “Despite the harsh weather and conditions, the FWO group works day and night to open up street traffic.”

ISPR said that due to heavy rain in Gilgit Baltistan, the highway was obstructed on Tuesday and closed at 20 focal points from Tatta Pani to Raikot.

Due to the end of the Karakoram Highway after the Gilgit-Baltistan avalanche, a large number of travelers and locals were abandoned.

Large-scale equipment was introduced on both sides of the Karakoram Mountains to clean up the roadways, but it was difficult to recover due to avalanches.

The British Home Office has stated that the opening of the blocked section of the Karakoram Highway will begin early on Thursday morning.

They said that the Disaster Management Agency and FWO were rebuilding Gilgit-Astory Road day and night, and by Thursday night, extensive traffic on the highway had resumed.

The British Housing Department has previously stated that if there are no more downpours or avalanches, the streets will recover soon, and FWO, NHA and district officials will manage the recovery work on site.

Travellers are advised to stand by in Chilas until the streets are restored.
