ACE summons Dawood University officials to investigate “illegal appointments”

The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACE) Sindh has launched an investigation into the administration and employees of the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) to investigate suspected illegal appointments and violations in the school team budget.

According to available information, Abdul Ghani, deputy director of ACE Karachi Eastern District, who has been investigating the matter, has written to DUET Registrar, Professor Syed Ali Shah, seeking information Details of the vice-principal (VC) and others of the school.

The investigator wrote in the letter that his task is to investigate DUET VC and other employees for suspected illegal appointments and other violations.

Ghani asked DUET registrars to instruct officials and employees to cooperate with the investigation by recording their statements on Friday. The officials and employees summoned included engineer Sajid Hussain Siyal, engineer Darya Khan Kakepoto, assistant professor Dr. Mujtaba, geologist Tehmina Fatima Siddiqui, laboratory engineer Tariq Ali Chandio, and assistant director Adeel Naich.

A person familiar with the matter told the News that a confidential report on the illegal appointment of DUET had been sent to ACE, which revealed that Dr. Shah was appointed to the school team without any advertising. Since 2008, he has been a regular lecturer without the approval of the group.

Similarly, Siyal, Fida Khoso, Kakepoto, and others were allegedly appointed to the non-advertising and selection committee. In addition, some people are appointed as engineers, but they do not have a certification number recognized by the Pakistan Engineering Council. It is said that the appointment of Dr. Ghulam Mujtaba, Assistant Professor of the Energy Department, is also illegal. Allegedly, Tehmina’s appointment was also made without any advertising.

In response to the inquiring officer, the registrar wrote: “It is reported that the geologist Tehmina Fatima Siddiqui and the laboratory engineer Tariq Ali Chandio are taking a leave of absence to continue their higher education. However, the rest of the staff is focused on conducting courses and on campus. Other educational activities.
