Isuru Udana withdrew from international cricket competition at 33

In the astonishing development, Sri Lanka All-rounder Isuru Udana International retirement has been announced. The 33-year-old player was recently a member of the Sri Lanka team and participated in a limited series against India. He participated in the first ODI and the first two T20Is, returned 8 runs and no wickets in three games.

The actual reason for the drastic step cannot be immediately confirmed. However, Isuru Udana has a brilliant career behind him. Among the 21 ODIs and 34 T20Is in Sri Lanka, the left arm pacemaker accumulated more than 45 wickets, with an average of 52.78 and 33.89, respectively. Known for long distance passing, he has also contributed more than 450 runs in his career.

However, these figures obscure the longevity of his career. Isuru Udana started out as a child prodigy under the age of 19 who could beat the best batsman with a slower batsman. Supported by some impressive performances, he made his debut at the 2009 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

He was favored again in 2018, mainly because of his improved batting ability and his key role in Sri Lanka’s bilateral series against South Africa and Pakistan.

Isuru Udana also participated in the IPL for the Royal Challenger Bangalore led by Virat Kohli. As a solution to the dual problems of the franchise-bowling death and low-level shots-he couldn’t make much contribution with his bat, but got 8 good wickets from 10 games, with an economic rate of 9.72.
