Former racing driver Shoaib Akhtar believes that Pakistan may win the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
In an interview with the Indian channel Sports Tak, Akhtar stated that Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and the West Indies will dominate the UAE’s T20 World Cup.
“You can’t rule out Pakistan winning this year’s T20 World Cup even though they lost the T20I series against England. Please note that Pakistan and India will meet in the finals of major tournaments in the UAE,” he believed.
“Look, the UAE is Pakistan’s backyard because they play a lot of cricket here. The UAE’s circuit has different spins, the British batsmen are struggling there, and the New Zealanders are easily trapped there. So Pakistan, India , Afghanistan (if they show maturity) and the West Indies will have a chance to qualify for the T20 World Cup knockout round,” he added.
It must be pointed out here that India and Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan and the two qualifying teams are placed in the second group of the T20 World Cup. The event will start in the UAE and Oman on October 17.
