Rainforest sounds for voice apps
For more than a year, my favorite sleep sound uses natural and soft sounds to coax me to sleep. The combination of rushing water, bird chirping and buzzing makes me feel like camping. I also like that it is a super long loop, about an hour, but it gradually disappears between the intro and the after, so you will never be awakened by the rapidly changing sound. -Parker Hall

Box fan sound
During our three-week trip to Asia, my partner and I missed the fan we usually leave when we slept. We play this reliable, realistic loop for eight hours every night. Spotify Wrapped even said that this is my best song of the year. Pro tip: When the “song” restarts, use cross-fade settings to avoid awkward pauses. –Lorraine Stramp
White noise environment lite
Although I like to listen to the sound of rain or birdsong outside the window, I don’t like the fake versions that are common on audio machines. But I also need to filter out all the noise that occurs in the apartment building. This is how I found the White Noise Ambience Lite app. It has your classic options, such as ocean waves and tweeting bugs, but also the crackling sound of vinyl records and my personal favorite clothes dryer. This is just a moderate amount of noise to block everything else and make me fall asleep. -Medea Giordano
