15-year-old Olivia Moultrie became the youngest player to make his NWSL professional football debut for the Portland Thorns

On Saturday night, Olivia Moultrie (Olivia Moultrie) became the youngest player in history to appear in the NWSL game. The 15-year-old Portland Thorns midfielder came off the bench in Louisville just three days after signing a professional contract with the club.

Moultrie, wearing the No. 42 jersey, replaced Angela Salem in the 83rd minute. The youngest player in NWSL history is only 18 years old.

Moultrie was born on September 17, 2005, and signed with Portland after winning a lawsuit against NWSL for professional contract rights.

A federal judge ruled in June that the NWSL’s age limit prohibiting players under 18 from signing for league clubs is not enforceable.

Thornes coach Mark Parsons said in the club statement that announced the signing: “For this club, signing a young and talented player that we truly believe in is huge.”

Moultrie is a native of Wilsonville, Oregon and has been a member of the Thorns team since 2019, playing for the academy and training with the first team. She also participated in preseason games with senior teams.

She also played for U.S. under-15 and under-17 teams.

In Saturday’s 11 minutes on the field, including 4 minutes of stoppage time, Moultrie played in an offensive midfield position. She carried out some challenges, caused turnovers in the offensive half, and passed the ball near the opponent’s area.

She led the Thorns 2-0 into the game. The score line is the final result.
