First, you need a central processing unit (CPU or processor), a place to put it (motherboard), and a power supply unit (PSU) to keep your gaming equipment running normally. There is no discount for AMD processors this year, so the motherboards below are all Intel processors. This simply means that everything in this list will work together in the same build.

Regardless of the workload, Intel Core i7 can’t go wrong. This one is from the ninth generation, and it is still fast enough not to hinder your game (or your spreadsheet).

This Core i7 bears the K logo, which means it is unlocked, allowing you to increase the CPU clock frequency to increase its speed. (It’s basically faster than a standard chip.) For most PC versions, if possible, it is best to start with 16 GB of RAM. In most workloads and games, the extra memory will keep your machine light. Eventually, you may want to increase to 32 GB.
